Digital Tabletop Game - Rabbit Hole

Rabbit Hole is a multi-player tabletop game that players play as “themselves” to achieve one unsatisfied goal in their real life. At beginning of the game, each player can write down a simple goal in real life on a blank white card. During the game, players can go down the rabbit hole by moving their chess pieces, answering questions cooperatively or by themselves. At the end of the game, one or more players with the highest score will gain the “power” to achieve their goals written on the white card.

The core of Rabbit Hole is about “satisfaction” and “wish fulfilling”. Because most goals that players set at the beginning of game are small troubles in their daily life, such as “get more sleep”, “get better score”, and “hang out with old friends”. Therefore, the gameplay of Rabbit Hole is designed to make players feel the positive parts of life and the bond between people. The questions in game are all highly related to peoples’ daily life, such as “name 10 ingredients of salad in 30 seconds” and “name 5 of your favorite songs in 10 seconds”. Overall, Rabbit Hole is designed to bring joy the players, remind them of the happiness of their life, and cheer them up. Therefore, players may able to regain their enthusiasm and courage to solve their troubles in life.

Rabbit Hole is a 2-4 players game that was made and released on Tabletop Simulator. I finished designing the game in 3 weeks and totally on my own. I struggled a lot during the design process, because it is really hard to bring players satisfaction in a 12-minute tabletop game. I playtested the game more than 5 times, and finally decided to keep the core mechanics simple and joyful.

Rabbit Hole is not a perfect work and may not be powerful enough to really make people achieve their goals, but I believe that this game can give people some joy and motivation, which is a small force pushing them forward that may bring positive influences in their life.

This game is made in 2021-2022.
